When an object is heated, the radiation that it emits increases in frequency. If it is heated enough, it will begin to emit visible light. If we heat metal, it will begin to glow red (visible light). If we continue to heat it, it will eventually emit all colours (white light). The results of this can be shown on a graph of intensity vs. wavelength for different temperatures:
