Web module 11 influence of others 1. Along with helping us make quick decisions, heuristics are also used to make social judgements. Cognitive heuristics accelerate the processing of social situations. Cognitive heuristics provide useful shortcuts in processing social cues. Consider how well a behaviour fits with a certain prototype. We often discount probability in favor of a representative phenotype. Considers the experiences most readily available in memory. The availability of flaws in memory influences our perceptions of an experience. The course evaluation examples: dr. first"s class, dr. second"s class, asked to rate both, dr. first positive experience because first semester was good, dr. second very few good memories. A combination of four factors can predict the degree of attraction between two individuals. Attractiveness is governed by these four factors. Attraction leaves us with a positive impression of a person and are more likely to desire their company.
