Document Summary

Forming impressions textbook: false consensus effect: we tend to believe more people share our views than they actually do. Illusory correlation: when individuals believe that 2 variables are related even though there is no evidence for that relationship. Implicit association test (iat): a speeded categorization task where participants categorize stimuli into 4 different categories using 2 response keys. Categories are paired so that 2 categories require 1 response key and 2 categories require other response key. If the participant completing the task views 2 categories requiring the same response as related, performance will be fast and accurate. If 2 related categories require different responses, performance will be slower with more errors. We look at these 3 factors when analysing behaviour. 4attribution errors: dispositional: consensus: yes; situational/ no; dispositional, fundamental attribution error (others) More likely to make this error for others. People in western cultures make this error more (less collectivist error: actor observer effect (our self)
