PSYCH 1X03 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Dishabituation, Orienting Response, Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
Learning: a relatively enduring change in the mechanisms of behavior that occurs due to experience. Why use mechanism as an indication of learning, why not just use change in behavior as an indication: 2. there are many reasons that could affect a behavior. Learning may happen while it does not reflect immediately on performances. When learning occurs, something change in the processes and systems that produce behavior, thereby altering the mechanism of behavior. Not learning: maturation: development of behavior and skill as an individual matures. Reflexive orienting response: an automatic shift of attention toward that stimulus or events. Stimulus must be something that you are capable of perceiving. Hibituation: a decrease in response to a stimulus or event as it is repeatedly presented without any consequence. Limit orientation response and allow us to not be overwhelmed by all the novel input. Dishabituation: increase in response that follows a change in nthe stimulus to which habituation has occur.
