This is the ability to identify a pitch without reference to an external standard. 15% of accomplished musicians possess this ability: ability to identify a musical note through auditory input. Most north americans cannot do this: we tend to have relative pitch instead: this allows us to tell if pitches are higher or lower than each other, musicians use rp to detect intervals. Ap possessors have an advantage: have exceptional musical skills, factors such as beginning musical training before age 7 are related to this ability. Sound localization = a more complex auditory perception that requires auditory input from both ears. Interaural time difference: the auditory cue that shows how since our ears are separated, it takes a different length of time for sound to reach each ear. These are aka binaural cues because they require inputs from both ears to extract info. They localize sound on the azimuth (horizontal angle with respect to the head)
