Strings" vs" winds", etc. : studies show that grouping based on pitch prevails over grouping based on spatial location ** (but not always the case) Less clear whether neural processing of auditory pitch reflects a separation between pitch height and chroma. Musicians with absolute pitch: have an asymmetry between left and right hemispheres that prioritizes left hemisphere: found in an auditory association area called planum temporal" (toward posterior of temporal lobe) Other studies show right hemisphere optimized for analyzing the spectrum of sound, whereas left hemisphere optimized for perceiving rapid temporal fluctuations.
