Regression is closely related to w correlation in that we are interested in the strength of association btwn two variables. But in regression we are also concerned w specify the nature of this relationship. Specify ind and dep variables one variable is dependent on the other. = sp/ssx or a = y intercept refers to the expected level of y when x=0 this is the base-line amount bc it is what y should be before we take the level of x into account. = sigma (x xbar)(x ybar)/sigma (x-xbar)^2 (for deviations). = sigma (xy) n xbar ybar) / sigma x^2 n xbar^2 (for raw scores) or a = ybar b xbar (the intercept: mean of x, mean of y, sum of squares and products. Ssy = sigma (y-ybar)^2: compute b and a. The slope b and y intercept a form the equation for the regression.
