More than 2/3 of sociologists working in this country teach in colleges and uni"s. Life in academic reaches beyond the classroom: research, consulting. In us, college teachers held 1. 7 million jobs. Pursue ideas, accumulate and disseminate information, influence intellectual development of many. In the classroom learning occurs for everyone: good teachers learn from the students and maintain upgrading to add to their body of knowledge, good balance between time spent alone and w others. Knowing how to handle and teach students is just as important as knowing content: will have students who know sociology and don"t. Planning for learning outcomes and preparation to follow course objectives: deciding what material should be introduced. Students learn in different ways: audio, visual, kinesthetic learners (latter usually forgotten, have to incorporate ways to ensure they succeed. Finding themselves capabilities, values, beliefs: have to create a risk free environment, learning the content, emotional, vulnerable. Issues of self-esteem and self-worth are closely assoc w grading.
