The orbit of a planet has a shape of a flattened circle like an ellipse (these curved shapes belong to a family of curves known as conic sections) The closer the planet is to the sun, the faster it moves. The straight line joining a planet and the sun sweeps out equal areas in space at equal intervals of time. Volume how much physical space an object occupies. Spins slower some fixed point (planet orbiting sun, figure skater spinning in one spot) Objects at rest stay at rest, moving objects continue moving in a straight line unless acted upon by a force. the force that bends and alters that straight line, is gravity. Believed there was a universal attraction(gravity) between all material bodies in space.
