One of the most common types of violence against children is child abuse. Children from all socioeconomic groups and both males and females are victims of abuse. This type of violence can have implications for both the physical and mental health of children. Child disability or condition that requires a great deal of care (e. g. , intellectual disability, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) Absence of natural father or having a stepfather. Physical abuse is the deliberate maltreatment of another individual that inflicts pain or injury and may result in permanent or temporary disfigurement or even death. Whipping with belts, shoes, or electrical cords. Inflicting burns with a lit cigarette or lighter. Immersing child or body part in scalding water (commonly legs, perineal area, hands, or feet. Shaking the child violently ( shaken child syndrome) Tying the child to a fence, bed, tree, or other object. Throwing the child against a wall, down stairs, or against a window.
