Nociception perception of noxious stimulus as being painful, Transduction activation of primary nociceptive fibres. Transmission afferent information passes through the dorsal root ganglia to the spinal cord where it continues to pass down through multiple ascending pathways. Perception pain becomes a conscious experience. Modulation body"s response in relation to the stimulus. Neuropathic pain nutritional deficiencies and neurologic diseases can activate peripheral pain mechanisms. Can be acute, chronic, nociceptive, neuropathic or a combination. Found in multiple myeloma, metastasis or advanced stage disease, during anticancer treatment, breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer. Under detected and managed in older adults. Chronic illnesses also make it hard to identify pain in older adults. Musculoskeletal pain occurs in multiple sites especially joints, Diminished physical function to the point of disability. Social isolation and negative effects on relationships. Patients age 65 or older receive inadequate doses or even no doses of analgesic medications for cancer or postoperative pain relief.
