Culture is a powerful social force that influences events that are diverse. Cultural similarities influence many of our decisions: who to marry, who to be friends with, etc. Social divisions due to culture: culture can play a role in war. Culture plays a role in dividing us up. Culture is imp because it is the key to understanding how we relate to each other: behind what unites & divides us. Culture is those elements of social life that have meanings that social actors interpret and convey. Includes things like languages, symbols, beliefs, norms, world views, discourses, texts, knowledge, values, attitudes, folkways, art, music, ideas, and ideologies. Difference between culture and structure: structural aspects are the enduring patterns of social relations and social institutions through which society is organized. Enduring pattern of social behaviour, existing primarily at the level of lived experience. Economic system: cultural elements are those that carry meaning and can be interpreted.
