Sensory or afferent: motor or efferent, automatic nervous system: component of pns that receives information from and sends commands to the heart and other organs. A system of twos: pns is divided into skeletal and automatic portions. Sensory neurons are often called afferent neurons because they send signals from the body to the brain: afferent neurons: carry impulses toward the brain, motor neurons: Motor neurons direct muscles to relax or contract, producing movement. They are efferent neurons sending information from the brain to the body (opposite of afferent neurons: efferent neurons: carry impulses away from the brain to the body. Interneurons: basically, any neuron that is not a sensory or motor neuron.
