Conformity: when a person is not confident in his response, it makes sense to use other"s judgements for reference. People often conform because they believe that several people are more knowledgeable than one or because they fear the consequences of appearing deviant. Informational influence: a form of social influence that leads a person to conform because he or she believes others are correct in their judgements (produces private conformity) Normative influence: a form of social influence that leads a person to conform because he or she fears the consequences of deviating from group norms (produces public conformity) Private conformity: conformity that occurs when an individual changes behaviours and beliefs to conform to a group. Public conformity: conformity that occurs when an individual changes behaviours but not beliefs to conform to a group.
