Document Summary
Topic 1: role models: observational learning: much of what we learn about how to exist in our social world is through observing and imitating other people. Early in life, our parents or caregivers dominate our social world, and much of what we learn about how to interact with others comes from them. The social brain hypothesis is an idea that was put forth to explain the evolution of intelligence. the reason that species have developed brains so large and metabolically demanding is to meet the cognitive demands of social living. Authoritative parents are highly demanding of their children and highly responsive to them. They are unlikely to physically discipline their children and will more often explain the reasons behind the rules they have laid out to them. tend to be socially competent and self-confident, and have the best overall outcomes. They often do well in school, feel good about themselves, and report feeling supported by their parents.
