Study of split-brain patients and language biggest contributors to lateralization of funciton. Rh larger and heavier than lh, but lh more densely packed. In temproal lobe: planum temporal (cid:894)wer(cid:374)ike(cid:859)s area & language comp) larger on left, primary auditory cortex in herschel"s gyrus larger on right. In thalamus: lateral posterior nuclei larger on left, medial geniculate nucleus larger on right. More temporal-parietal area on right side b/c sylvian fissure extends further back. Bro(cid:272)a(cid:859)s area: located in frontal operculum in inferior prefrontal cortex: more buried area on left, more surface area on rights. Marc dax was one of first to notice that language to left hem. Rh extends further forward, lh further back. Cerebral asymmetry expressed back on neural communication. Rh stronger w/ spatial ability and musical ability. More left handers show no asymmetry, and there is little asymmetry of speech in right hemisphere (clarified by lesion studies) Corpus callosum larger in left-handers which may contribute to greater interaction between hemispheres.
