Police Foundations LAW120 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Day Parole
Document Summary
There are a range of programs where offenders and accused persons are supervised in the community. Programs exist at various points in the system (pre-trial through to post-sentence) Some are an alternative to incarceration, while others provide supervision for offenders while they are reintegrated into the community. All exist to support individuals to live crime-free in the community. When offenders are admitted into custody a correctional treatment plan is developed which is continually updated depending on the level of risk and problem areas. This treatment plan provides a rehabilitative strategy which follows the offender through the institutional and community phases of supervision studies have shown that 73% to 81% of those who have served their sentences do not reoffend again. Federal inmates (sentenced to two years or longer: the federal correctional system is responsible for parole, statutory release and temporary absences.
