Charter of rights and freedoms- the primary law of the land and guarantees fundamental freedoms, legal rights, and the quality rights for all citizens of canada, including those accused of crimes. Criminal law sets out the rules that police and judges must follow in criminal matters. Private law regulates relationships between individuals other than the state and is used to resolve disputes between private citizens. Criminal law- body of law that deals with conduct considered so harmful to society as a whole that it"s prohibited by statute and prosecuted and punished by the government. Acts as a mechanism of social control.
