Rcmp assumed provincial policing responsibilities in all provinces except ontario, The rcmp was founded in 1873 to maintain law and order and to ensure orderly settlement of north-west territories. The number of police offenders in canada has increased over the past decade even though crime rates have dropped. The police have more contact with the general public than other criminal justice personnel.
