Document Summary
Basic characteristics of surveys: survey uses questionnaires and interviews to gather information about people. Simple random sampling: simple random sampling in which every member of the sampling frame has an equal probability of being chosen at random to participate in the survey. Stratified random sampling: stratified random sampling a sampling frame is divided into groups (called strata; singular = stratum), and then within each group random sampling is used to select the members of the sample. Cluster sampling: cluster sampling units (e. g. , geographic regions, schools) that contain members of the population are identified. These units called clusters are then randomly sampled, and within each sampled cluster either all people or randomly chosen people are selected to participate in the survey. Convenience sampling: convenience (or haphazard) sampling members of a population are selected non-randomly for inclusion in a sample, on the basis of convenience, technique introduces potential biases into the sampling procedure.
