Culture - creation of learned and shared values, beliefs and behaviours in a community of interacting people. Intercultural context - an environment where different values, beliefs and behaviors exist between each individual. Intercultural competence - the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in a variety of cultural contexts, which requires a mindset, skillset and heartset. Mindset: analytical frameworks, knowledge and academic understanding of a culture through information about behaviours and attitudes. Skillset: interpersonal and group skills for bridging differences through intercultural abilities , including the capacity to listen, solve problems and to emphasize. Heartset: motivation and curiosity to explore cultural variables through interest and concern for others. Cultural humility - prerequisite for getting along with other cultural groups through respect for the validity of other cultures , requiring recognition that diverse worldviews are equally legitimate. Cultural self-awareness - recognition of the attributes and patterns of your own culture.
