Even the absolute duality of gender is contested (male-female) Sex is the biological division into male and female. Sex is merely the anatomical or biological characteristics of women and men. Gender is the parallel and socially unequal division into femininity and masculinity. Gender is a sociological term that refers to the roles and characteristics that society assigns to women and men. It could be said that sex is what you"re born with and gender is how you choose to see yourself. Another key term is gender role - the set of attitudes and expectations concerning behaviour that relates to being male or female. Gender roles di er across cultures, both in content and in severity with which society treats those who deviate from their expected gender roles. Heterosexual - sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex.
