Document Summary

Light microscope- passes visible light through a specimen or a thin slice of tissue. Celle theory- all living things are composed of cells and that cells come from other cells. All cells have- plasma membrane, chromosomes, ribosomes, cytoplasm. Ribosomes- tiny structures that make proteins according to instructions from the genes. Cytoplasm- entire region between nucleus and plasma membrane. Nucleoid- nucleus type thing in prokaryote, no membrane, coiled thing, where dna is located. Flagella- long projections, propel prokaryotic cell through liquid environment (locomotion organelle) Pili- attachment structures on the surface of some prokaryotes. Lysosomes- a digestive organelle in eukaryotic cells; contains hydrolytic enzymes that digests the cells food and wastes. Cellular metabolism- chemical activities of cell, occur in organelles. Endoplasmic reticulum- an extensive membranous network in a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the outer nuclear membrane, and composed of ribosome studded (rough) and ribosome free (smooth) regions.
