In times past, people would often work for one organization throughout their entire life (ex family farm). However, today, the odds are that you will work for several organizations in your lifetime. Our society has become increasingly mobile, and people switch jobs and even careers with great frequency. With all these organizational comings and goings, it becomes useful to understand the processes through which individuals and organizations adapt to each other. Fred jablin: those ongoing behavioural and cognitive processes by which individuals join, become integrated into, and exit organizations . Case 1 socialization: the organization is trying to influence the adaptation of individuals through formal and informal socialization processes. For example, socialization occurs when an individual learns about the requirements of a job, or decides that dressing formally will help them fit into the organizational culture. Case 2 individualization: an employee may try to change some aspect of the organization to better suit their needs, abilities, or desires.
