Lambda calculation formula: lambda uses the standard pre calculation formula (e1 e2) / e1. Instead of looking at the sample in terms of individual respondents, gamma examines it in terms of pairs of cases: gamma compares the ordering of each pair on the independent and dependent variables. And reports this ordering as either same or opposite. Gamma calculation formula: gamma is a member of the pre family of measures of association. A first complication tied pairs: tied pairs are those that have the same score on either the independent or dependent. Sum the products: opposite ordering multiply each cell frequency by the sum of the cell frequencies down and to the left.
