Mere presence of others: may energize someone more than being alone, also disrupts someone. Collective effect model: describes people"s motivation to exert effort in group tasks. Social compensation: notion that if a project is important to you, you will work harder to compensate for the social loafing of others. When initial tendencies of group members become more extreme following group discussion risky shift: a process by which groups tend to make riskier decisions than individuals would make alone. Groupthink group decision making style where members seek concurrence, consensus, and unanimity as opposed to making the best decision. Social dilemma: situations where if all individuals make self-interested choices, the results will be worst for everyone.
