Memory that allows you to access speciic memories located at a paricular point in ime. Mental ime travel allowing us to go back and relive earlier episodes. Crucial feature is the capacity to remember speciic events: need some kind of mental iling system to disinguish between similar events on other occasions. A system that allows you to encode that paricular experience that will disinguish it from others. A method of storing that event in a durable form. A method of searching the system and retrieving that paricular memory. Study of memory is inluenced by 2 tradiions. Ebbinghaus tradiion: study of human memory is made possible by focusing on clearly speciied experiments with ightly restrained goals. Long-term structured representaion of knowledge that was used by the rememberer to make sense of new material, to store and recall it: emphasized the role of social and cultural inluences on schemas, problems.
