Brenda milner: encountered pb and fc who became severely amnesic ater unilateral removal of the medial structures of the let temporal lobe. Was for the treatment of epilepic seizures. There was a pre-existent lesion in the right hemisphere. Making it like a bilateral lesion: studied hm. He had a bilateral medial temporal lobe resecion in atempt to control epilepic seizures. Resulted in a similar memory impairment to pb and fc. Hm: had major seizures at the age of 16, and became incapacitated by them at 27 despite aniconvulsant medicaion, he underwent the bilateral surgery to his medial temporal lobes, results. Had more sever memory impairment than pb and fc. He forgot daily events nearly as fast as they occurred. There was no intellectual loss or perceptual disorder: before hm memory funcions were thought to be widely distributed in the cortex and to be integrated with intellectual and perceptual funcions.
