How the internet has been taught to transform society: two main perspectives: optimistic, pessimistic. The digitally networked social reality instigated by the internet would lead to a new economic system where everyone could take part. It offered new and efficient ways of putting supplies, producers and consumers in contact with each other: web 1. 0 and web 2. 0, the internet became very commercialized. Curan (2012b) the revolt of the nerds : first wave: computer scientists and programmers (1980s-1990s) who dismissed the idea that software should be restricted by patients and copyright. Technological determinism: the assumption that technological changes and shifts in human relationships to these technologies were bound to generate certain forms of progressive social, cultural and political change. Technology is dependent on what is put into it. Singularity: an event which changes things so fundamentally that there is absolutely no going back. Legacy - reading, writing, logical thinking, understanding the writing from the past.
