Factors that afect total per capita amounts of waste generated. Apartment dwellers generate less wastes since they do not have yards. Incinerators and landills are lulus that trigger nimby reacions. Urban cdns are recycling and composing more than in the past but with signiicant variaion across the country: Montreal and calgary: less than one third; toronto: just over 40%; halifax: about 55% Markham: 70% (because they collect blue boxes and green bins twice as frequently as garbage. Kenworthy: not only do urban form, transportaion systems, and water, waste, and energy technologies have to change, but the value systems and underlying processes for urban governance and planning need to be reformed to relect a sustainability agenda. People are consuming too much which leads to excess waste producion. We need to focus on sustainable consumpion (buy less products, buy products that produces less waste or buy more services like leasing cars).
