Migration: the permanent relocation of one"s place of residence and generally considered to be a long distance move. International migration: a migrant leaving one county or region and moving permanently to another. Internal migration: occurs within a county and some other types of population movements are important to consider: cyclical movements: when people move back and forth between two places or among a few locations. Most basic form: primitive: movement that occurs when human populations run out of food; it is especially common among groups that remain hunter and gatherers. Mass migration: also known as group migration, which involves a large group of people moving together (i. e. tribes, communities). Free migration: a decision to relocate permanently to another location without the coercion, support, or compulsion of any government or group in power: people decide to migrate without being forced or coerced to do so.
