The united nations and multilateral actors in development. Multilateralism : referring to formal arrangements among 3 or more states, commonly for peaceful purposes over extended periods. The multilateral approaches virtues are said to include : Lower risks that the self-interest of donor nations would dominate. Multilateral organization peace: the united nations system, western industrialised governments, governments of non-western countries. It was created under the banner of peace and security, but it quickly took on to promote development. Until late 1950s it - helped launch many global initiatives in the name of economic and social well-being. In early 1950s and 60s it provided legitimacy and military power in support of the us foreign policy. After 1960s - by when the un membership had increased. The one-state-one-vote in the general assembly began tilting towards the non-western world. In the 1990s - western nations supported the deployment of un troops to conflict zones where western powers had not already intervened.
