PSCI264 Chapter Notes - Chapter oct 20: Amanda Bennett, Journalistic Objectivity
Document Summary
Removal of bias is very important in politics. The media is free to do what it wants. The media needs to be fair and biased (this position generally outweighs the other) People often accuse the media of being biased when they present opinions that don"t match, or oppose, their own. Trump accused the moderator in the rst presidential debate as being biased because she asked him about his comments on women. Clinton supporters accused the media of being biased because they predicted her downfall early on in the campaign. The media has never really existed in a golden age of objectivity. The media is an outlet for partisan re ections. Certain partisan associations with a media source (ie a democratic favouring news channel) would deter advertisers (a republican advertising company) Media did not want to get into a partisanship battle with advertisers. If the media did not remain objective, they would hurt nancially.
