The genetic code genes, the basic units of heredity; genes are responsible for guiding the process of creating the proteins that make up our physical structures and regulate development and physiological processes throughout the lifespan. If two corresponding genes at a given location on a pair of chromosomes are the same, they are referred to as homozygous. If the two genes differ, they are heterozygous the genotype represents what was inherited (i. e. , tt,tt, or tt). The phenotype represents the physical and behavioural manifestation of that geno- type that occurs through interactions with the environ- ment. Behavioural genomics is the study of dna and the ways in which speci c genes are related to behaviour. Behavioural genetics is the study of how genes and the environment in uence behaviour. If some genes fail to be activated (or expressed) properly, people may be at a greater risk for developing brain-related disorders.
