Repolarization enough positive ions move out of the cell to reestablish the action potential. Large diameter axons provide less resistance and are more contusive to conduction. Mylean sheath is like insulation for the structure, and the presence of the sheath will induce a higher conduction. At excitatory synapses, neurotransmitters increase rate and at inhibitory synapses, they reduce rate. Process is called neurogenesis and occurs 20 weeks after conception, peaking in 3rd or 4th month gestation.
