Document Summary
Sensory neurons bundled together to form nerves to carry information from sensory organs. Motor neurons also bundled in nerves, carry info from cns to operate muscles and glands. Dendrites branch like structures and function to receive input for the cells. Its function is to carry messages to other neurons. A charge exists across the membrane of an inactive neuron. Depolarization thousands of channels that permit sodium ions to pass through open up and let the sodium ions through the cell structure. Repolarization enough positive ions move out of the cell to reestablish the action potential. Large diameter axons provide less resistance and are more contusive to conduction. Mylean sheath is like insulation for the structure, and the presence of the sheath will induce a higher conduction. At excitatory synapses, neurotransmitters increase rate and at inhibitory synapses, they reduce rate. Process is called neurogenesis and occurs 20 weeks after conception, peaking in 3rd or 4th month gestation.
