Lack of sleep can cause health issues because immune functioning is diminished with a lack of sleep. 2:rapid eye-movement stage where the brain appears to be awake and the person is dreaming. There are some transition stages between these two stages numbered 1-4. Stage 1:person goes from wakefulness to drowsiness & sleep. The person drifts in and out of awareness of their surroundings. Stage 2: person has entered a light sleep stage where they can be easily awakened. After stage 2, in stages 3-4 the person is in depp sleep. Stage 4: very deep sleep in which the person is super hard to awaken, and can appear disoriented if they are somehow awakened. Normal sleep cycle through these stages in 90 minute cycles and spend about 50% of sleep time in light sleep. The limbic system is involved in anxiety and rem sleep meaning the two can be interrelated.
