Almost all research within the trait approach relies on correlational designs. The trait approach focuses exclusively on individual differences: there is no zero point, the trait approach seeks to measure the degree to which a person might be more or less dominant, sociable, or nervous than someone else. The focus on comparisons is one of the greatest strengths of the trait approach. But by its very nature is prone to neglect aspects of psychology common to all people as well as the ways in which each person is unique. You can judge or measure to which someone is shy, conscientious, or dominant, but even minimal experience will reveal that whatever you conclude the truth to be, there are numerous exceptions. Individual may be shy w strangers but open and family w family members. Situations can (cid:272)o(cid:374)trol a(cid:374) i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual"s (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iour: you act different at home than at work. Some have more consistent personality than others.
