Senescence is the more technically correct term for aging. As one becomes older, the influence of natural selection lessens your ability to influence future generations decreases as you become older. Genetically, because natural selection diminishes with age, any alleles that have little effect on the person during child-bearing years can be passed on. However, it is possible for these alleles to have negative effects on health in later years. Alleles that are beneficial to reproduction in early years actually have a negative effect on one"s later health. Humans are not the only biological organism that experiences the pressures of evolution. Relationships between health and disease: 1. Mismatch: the body and the environment do not match: evolutionary changes in our bodies happen slowly, whereas cultural changes may happen quickly, our bodies were not designed for the modern environments in which we now live.
