What is leisure: depends on the individual and the need and context of the situation. Leisure typically viewed in positive terms: benefits include promoting social order or improving social and cultural conditions, destructive side of leisure includes alcohol, drug use, gambling, sex tourism, prostitution. Leisure considered to be activity carried out in harmony with the main values of the larger society: led researchers to only focus on the benefits of leisure. If a threat is felt, community will take an active position to prevent the behaviour from occurring: gambling, recreational drug use, consumption of alcohol, some forms of sexual behaviour. Marginal and deviant leisure: terms such as deviant, marginal, off-colour, taboo recreation mean the same. Large revenues for those promoting gambling, including the provincial governments: criminal activity. Interested researchers go to other disciplines such as psychiatry, psychology, sociology for further explanation. Some deviant leisure are understood from a combination of biological, psychological and sociological factors.
