Interviewing/observation are main techniques of data collection (interview while observing feelings, moods, locations, etc) Gathers info about a topic before developing theories to explain particular aspects of it. Deductive logic theory to hypotheses for testing. Develop theory or set of theories to explain/predict a pattern. Theory is then tested to see if expected pattern transpires. Overall research process first consider how interview fits into the whole of a research project. Determine particular interest, search literature for area to extend in or for a gap to fill; this gives you your questions.
