This research design aims to celebrate the silenced minority in schools and assist them in being heard - not just listened to. Methodology this research is a critical ethnographic study of a participatory research project. The child researchers will be situated as experts" in their own life when they are asked to provide data on the impact of schooling on their life worlds using familiar technology like videos and cameras. By collecting and interpreting data on children as competent researchers it is anticipated that this thesis will donate information on the capabilities and potential of children as researchers if given freedom and guidance. Fullan (1991:170) questioned, what would happen if we treated the student as someone whose opinion mattered?". This child-centred research aims to help build strong school communities where all contributions are valued and acted upon even if they challenge the existing culture and construct of children embedded in the present schooling system.
