Document Summary

Intelligence: the natural and acquired capacity to solve problems, learn, and adapt which is different between individuals. Lots of work has been put into coming up with an objective definition and accurate tests for measuring this ability. Ability to solve particular problems in the environment. It"s not only humans that are intelligent as a species, any species that has adapted well can be said to be intelligent. A person"s intelligence is evaluated by their score on tests that measure specific mental abilities. Sir francis galton: individual differences are based in heredity and can be measured through speed and accuracy of problem solving. Charles spearman: applied factor analysis to tests of mental ability and came up with a single common factor called the general (g) factor. Intelligence can be estimated by combining scores on various ability tests. Each test leaves a specific residual (s) factor that represents the unique talents and abilities of each person outside of their test scores.
