PSYC 217 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Face Validity, Content Validity, Impulsivity
Document Summary
Every variable that is studied must be operationally defined. The operational definition is the specific method used to manipulate/measure this variable. 5 major dimensions of personality (costa and mccrae, 1985) - neo personality inventory. This inventory is an example of a self-report test, which is often used by psychologists to measure and study psychological attributes such as intelligence, self esteem, extraversion, depression . First step to a quality operational definition: reliability consistency or stability of a measure of behaviour. True error: person"s real score on the variable. Example: measuring different people"s scores on tests. both test ranges have an average score of 100. one test range is 85 to 115, a 30-point spread. one test range is 97-103, a 6-point spread. The test with the least variability is more reliable, therefore, it contains less measurement error. Can range from 0. 00 to +1. 00 and 0. 00 to -1. 00. Correlation of 0. 00 tells us that the two variables are not related at all.
