Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share a culture. Karl marx was a sociologist who looked at the main causes of class conflict and how they arise. Max weber is another sociologist that suggested that the power of ideas shapes society. Emile durkheim a third sociologist that helped us see the different ways that traditional and modern societies hang together. Gerhard and jean lenski society is defined by the level of technology. The term socio-cultural evolution means changes that occur as a society gains new technology. They do not necessarily mean that they are better. The more technology a society has the faster it changes, societies with no technological advances develop very slowly. There are five types of societies defined by their technology: A few hunting and gathering societies remain in existence today. They have little control over their environment and so spend most of their time gathering a collecting food.
