Social movements: purposeful/organised groups striving to work toward common goal. Definition: large group of people who gather together in spontaneous activity that lasts limited amount of time before returning to regular routines. Technology plays big role in creation of flash mob. Collective behaviour: non-institutionalised activity in which several people voluntarily engage. Crowd: large number of people in close proximity to form. Casual crowds: people who are in same place @ same time b/ not really interacting such as people standing in line @ post office. Conventional crowds: those who come together for scheduled event. Expressive crowds: those who come together to express emotions. Mass: relatively large & dispersed number of people w/ common interest. Members are largely unknown to one another & incapable of acting together in concerted way to achieve objectives. Public: unorganised, relatively diffused group of people who share ideas on issue. Members of mass share interests whereas members of public share ideas.
