Decoding the eye behavior have 3 areas of investigation: eye contact/gaze, pupil size, eye direction. Women engage in more eye contact than men. Exline (1963) experiment with 3 men, 3 women discussed finding a name for a product and found that women engaged in more mutual, nonmutual and longer gazes. Henley we put so much emphasis on the eyes that blocking them off is enough to cloud an identity (black barring of the eyes in pictures) Eye contact has: positives engaged couples looking at each other the most. More eye contact makes you more desirable (ewing, r, p: negatives. Taught that it is impolite to stare at others (henley) People don"t like when the gaze is hidden (ex. baseball cap, sunglasses) Frustrating when we cannot see a persons eyes. Stacks & stacks suggested removing sunglasses from coast guards because of the negative connotations associated with them (hell"s angels)
