An ecological perspective on health promotion programs (351-377) Health promo in general is a good thing, but some critics think it promotes victim-blaming by not including the social factors into overall health. Dramatic increase in health promo in the states in past 20 years, such as smoking cessation, weight reduction, injury prevention, etc. mostly due to the increase in chronic illness deaths rather than infectious illness deaths. Health promo has lead to health programs in the workplace, societal interest in fitness in private sector, in the public sector it has lead to campaigns to regular blood pressure and cholesterol. Lifestyle theory of disease: approaches ill health as a personal failure a(cid:374)d does(cid:374)"t take i(cid:374)to a(cid:272)(cid:272)ou(cid:374)t the social norms, suggest that while it is important to be self-aware, it is more important to make physical and environmental changes. System changes approaches (change the behavior and health of individual) need consent by government, major challenge is implementing the change.
