A good qualitative study design has a clearly defined purpose that is coherent between the research question and methods used in turn generating data that is valid and reliable in nature. It is further realistic due to its constraint of time and money. Others emphasize the need for reflexivity as social relationships are always changing and this is one of its key strengths. It is not discrete but has a continuous nature. However, understanding how the study can be elaborated by existing knowledge can help with the framework. One needs to remain open and not use something that is fixed. As mentioned it can be control groups as they contribute to specific objectives of the study and is consistent with qualitative nature but may be less illuminating if it is focused on impacts based on the other group. They need to be used with a clear purpose.
