Document Summary

In sexual reproduction, each parent passes on half of his or her dna to each child. Sexual reproduction requires the fusion of one sperm and one ovum (egg) Our gametes (sperm or ova) are produced by meiosis which involves a parental cell undergoing a pair of cell division resulting in the production of four daughter cells. Other mistakes in meiosis are survivable, but can produce severe developmental abnormalities. Sexual reproduction results in offspring that are different from either parent because each parent contributes half of each offspring"s dna. parental gametes are genetically distinct; no two ova or sperm from the same individual are the same. In asexual reproduction, an organism (or cell) generates offspring that are genetically identical to itself. No partner is required for asexual reproduction. Mitosis vs. meiosis in eukaryotes, mitosis produces two genetically identical daughter cells from each parent cell organisms that reproduce asexually, mitosis produces genetically identical offspring.
