Document Summary

Solid is less dense than liquid, therefore it floats. Occurs in all three states solid liquid and gas. Water is polar, oxygen has a partial negative charge; and hydrogen has a partial positive charge. Hydrogen bonds keep the water molecules close and linked (cohesion) water attracts to water. This allows the transport of water and nutrients upwards (using an anti-gravitical process) Cohesion is what causes water molecules to form a water drop. Adhesion, the clinging of two substances (water attracts other substances), helps to power against gravity. Adhesion is what causes a water drop to cling to substances such as a pine needle. Surface tension -> measure of how difficult it is to break the surface of a substance. Due to water"s surface tension, it appears as if there is a thin film of coating over the top of the liquid. A molecule with a greater kinetic energy will move faster.
